Government launches new website for e-traders

Tue, 06 Feb 2007 17:46:06 GMT

Those individuals who have started up an e-commerce business are being advised to make sure they have registered to pay tax.

To help with the process, e-traders are being made aware of a new website which has been designed by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) for people who trade online, launched this week.

Stuart Hartlib, director of risk and intelligence for HMRC, said: "The site is designed to make registering and paying tax easier, so you can work out whether you are self-employed and need to file a return."

He also said that e-traders would also be able to access information about capital gains tax and VAT.

HMRC has also stipulated that online businesses need to let HMRC know of their operation within three months of starting a business.
